The Newtional
So, The National are by far one of my favorite bands oat. Their most recent album, boxer, is fantastic, and I have been (im)patiently waiting for the next one to come out for nearly three years now. After way too long, a high quality recording of a song off of the still-untitled album is available. It's called "runaway" and it's pretty great. Pretty sure I remember them playing this live at least once. Enjoy:

THE ARF ARF
haven't been able to stop listening to this song tonight. apparently this band (the xx) played like 20,000 shows in NY this past week and I ignored every good thing I had heard about them only to listen to them now and realize, shit, they rule. Streaming video/song below, and a mediafire link below that.

Scott Kelly - The Wake

DOWNLOAD
Here is a great acoustic album brought to you by Scott Kelly of Neurosis. It's a nice quiet record with some haunting vocals and guitar work. Goes great with a glass of whiskey. Perfect for the recent weather we've all been having. Personal favorite of mine!
ENJOY!

Trve Norwegian Black Metal

To get you guys in the mood for our sick party this Friday, as well as the Halloween season, here's a great photographer to check out named Peter Beste. He's got a book called True Norwegian Black Metal, which I think most of you will find quite inspiring. Here's his site.
http://www.peterbeste.com/
Since you can't actually view images from the book on his site anymore, you should go HERE to see some instead.

Chain Mail of the Day

Three Men on a Hike*
Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large
raging, Violent river. Needing to get to the other side, the first man
prayed:
' God, please give me the strength to cross the river. '
Poof! . God gave him big arms and strong legs and he was able to swim
across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.
After witnessing that, the second man prayed: ' God, please give me
strength and the tools to cross the river '
Poof! .. God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and strong legs and he
was able to row across in about an hour after almost capsizing once.
Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed: ' God,
please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross the
river '
Poof! . He was turned into a woman. She checked the map, hiked one
hundred yards up stream and walked across the bridge.
' If at first you don't succeed, do it the way your wife told you!*

I'M AT THE END OF MY ROPE.

DOWNLOAD
It's that time of the year again! The weather is getting cold, your friends are growing more and more distant, that certain special someone won't give you the time of day, and you have nothing to look forward to...the solution?! OFF YOURSELF. Here's a mix for all your suicidal needs! There's some relaxing ones in case you want to leave this earth peacefully, or some more nerve-racking-itchy-wristed tunes that will get your blood flowing! (but make sure it's in a bathtub full of cold water, your blood will flow much faster!) Listen to it alone at night in your cold and loveless cave you call your bedroom and learn to hate yourself. SEE YOU IN HELL.
Robert Frank - Looking In

This exhibition celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of The Americans, Robert Frank’s influential suite of black-and-white photographs made on a cross-country road trip in 1955–56. Although Frank’s depiction of American life was criticized when the book was released in the U.S. in 1959, it soon became recognized as a masterpiece of street photography. Born in Switzerland in 1924, Frank is considered one of the great living masters of photography. The exhibition will feature all 83 photographs published in The Americans and will be the first time that this body of work is presented to a New York audience. In addition, the exhibition includes contact sheets that Frank used to create the book; earlier photographs made in Europe, Peru, and New York; a short film by the artist on his life; and his later re-use of iconic images from the series.

SHINE ON, SHINE ON (thinking of me)

So the whole YH lot made the trek up the street to the awesome Market Hotel last Friday to see stoners/surfers/hipsters Beach Fossils. While beach fossils ended up being pretty great, the band before them has ended up captivating my (our?) ear-holes for the past few days. They are called Air Waves, and I'm pretty sure that's them up there. Good shit. Heres my favorite track "Shine On" and a link to their 2008 EP is below that.
